Bullet-Proof Sheets of Carbon Nanotubes

Bullet-Proof Sheets of Carbon Nanotubes

via Slashdot by kdawson on 9/18/09

An anonymous
reader notes a CNN.com report on Nanocomp Technologies, the
first in the world to make sheets of carbon nanotubes. "In April, [CEO] Lashmore
had a mechanical multicaliber gun shoot bullets at different versions of his
sheet, each less than a fifth of an inch thick. ... Army tests show the material
works as well as Kevlar. The military also hopes to replace copper wiring in
planes and satellites with highly conductive nanotubes, saving millions of
dollars in fuel costs."

This is similar to what I was thinking the character John Tagliaferro would use as reenforcing material in his classic cars in the future.

PBR sales up 25%?

Pabst Blue Ribbon beer sales are way up? That swill is horrid, but it looks like stealthy word-of-mouth campaigns can get 20-somethings to drink anything.

What to give Poland for the 70th Anniversary of Her Invasion?

From Reason:
Obama
administration to drop
Bush plans for missile defense shield in Europe.

John Thacker September 17, 2009, 10:04am #
"How are we selling out the Czechs & Poles?"

Well, agree or disagree with the overall policy, we had an agreement
with the Czechs and Poles, and then unilaterally decided to abandon it and
inform them of our decision. This is being done to placate Russia. Yes,
Presidents do have the right to overturn their predecessor's policies, but it's
also understandable that some people in other countries might feel betrayed.

The nice part is that the Obama team, being schooled in history, decided
to declare this on September 17, 2009, the seventieth anniversary of the
Soviet invasion of Poland.

The whole thing is also further evidence
that nobody really cares about being unilateral, just like nobody really cares
about deficits, and nobody really cares about ethics. Or, at least, people care
about the policies involved a lot more than the care about the forms.

New York Terrorist Raid NOT in Buffalo!

Flushing, Queens, New York? They are branching out.

Residents in Queens were witness to an FBI raid Monday morning, as agents
flooded the area looking for explosives. Neighbors stood by as a large group of
FBI agents and NYPD detectives converged on an apartment building as point of a
joint terrorist task force.

The NYPD says one of the residences is located on 147th Street between
Parsons and 41st Avenue in Flushing, Queens.
